About NNK Learning

Hi, I’m Ruth Fuller, founder of Northern Neck Learning. I work one-on-one with kids ages 5-13 who struggle with reading and spelling, using the Orton-Gillingham approach—a structured, multisensory method for building strong phonics and decoding skills.

The mission is to build confident, capable readers through structured, multisensory Orton-Gillingham instruction, paced to each child.

Backstory:

I myself am a dyslexic reader who understands intimately the struggles your child is facing. A recipient of Orton-Gillingham-style learning, I can speak to its approach. As a newly diagnosed student entering 3rd grade at a 2nd-grade reading level back in the 90’s, I entered an immersive program and ended the year at an 8th-grade reading level. I went on to graduate from high school and college with high marks, earning a Political Science degree and Sociology minor from Christopher Newport University, followed by a Master’s in Teaching.

I have spent the past 16 years in the technology sector leading sponsor relations, customer engagement, and, most recently, Renewals and Sales Operations for a digital ADA technology company. After being blessed with surprise twins, I have felt the pull back to education, especially for neurodivergent learners and all those who can benefit from extra one-on-one attention.

I’m currently completing my Orton-Gillingham Associate training, and I offer reading comprehension tutoring sessions paced to each child. My goal is simple: help kids build confidence and see real progress, one small win at a time.
